The truth is, this newsletter could be one sentence. The way to make someone feel good when they’re going through a rough stretch is to do one thing and one thing only: Check in. By text, by email, by tin can on a rope. Thinking of you. How are you feeling today? I love you. Literally, that’s it. But it just so happens that people are amazing and, as I recently, personally learned, are capable of going above and beyond the call of duty in the get-well-soon gift department. To the point where I think I might have to continue this already very long list in future newsletters. But here is the first big installment, which includes self-care delights, book recs, some amazing wildcards, and, of course, food — homemade, home-baked, mail-order, dinner deliveries, and more. Not only did every single thing brighten my day in the most obvious ways — I mean, six pints of world-class ice cream delivered to my doorstep? — but each one gave me an excuse to reach out to the giver with a thank-you text or a photo, which in turn led back to thinking of you, how are you feeling, I love you! As you can probably imagine, I milked every single exchange as much as possible.

Here’s the list…

[And here’s what’s going on with me, in case you missed it.]

Thank-you credit for the following gifts goes to: Ingrid, Frank, Lori, Rory, Kate, Liz, Ethan, Lauren, Josh, Ben, Steph, Elyse, Tom, Jenn, Jennie, Cara T, Cara M, Clarisa, Ingrid K, Naria, Patrick, Joanna, Freddie, Samidh, Lynn, Nick, Mom, Jeni, Ben, Tony, Trish, Lia, David, Andy B, Whit, Lena, Betsy, Jodi, Fred, Julie, Danny, Sanyu, Susan, Alison, Leigh. ❤️
