Last year, when we downsized from a house in the suburbs to an apartment on the Upper West Side of New York, I thought I had a pretty good handle on the sacrifices and benefits our move would entail — we’d struggle with less space, but we’d be psyched to have New York City and all the culture that comes along with it right outside our front door.
