Friday Eating & Reading
What we're reading and eating this week:
A bright spot during dark times: I wrote about a woman who has launched a gratitude campaign -- she's writing a thank-you note to someone every day of the year.
How much do we love Chrissy Teigen? The always great Jason Gay profiles her in the latest issue of Vogue.
Three links for people like me who don't really think about baking until the weather turns cooler:
-Brown butter and Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies
- Devil's Food Cake. Marshmallow icing, people!
-I saw a photo of Ina's Ricotta Fig Cake on her instagram feed, and I was making it less than an hour later. It's so easy and so good!
On The Daily yesterday, Michael Barbaro interviewed the manager of NYC's Comedy Cellar about giving Louis CK a platform nine months after he was accused of (and confessed to) sexual misconduct, and discussed all the complicated questions: Who deserves a second chance? How soon is too soon to return? What message is it sending to give him a platform? Who is in the position to decide these things? It makes for good family dinner conversation to say the least.
Dear Younger Me: A professional runner writes a letter to her high school self. My daughter, a cross-country girl herself, sent this to me and I think it should be required reading for all girl althetes -- actually all girls -- everywhere.
If everyone ate beans instead of beef.
Olivia Mack Anderson's book Lunch has turned my lunches from standing-in-front-of-the-refrigerator affairs, to wholesome, satisfying mindful meals.
Loving Tana French's newest book: The Witch Elm.
When I asked for your favorite Tofu recipes last week, reader "Trockwood" pointed me in the direction of Tofu Triangles in Creamy Nut Butter Sauce and I could not believe how incredible it was. To the point where I'm trying not to make it again too soon because I don't want to get sick of it. (I slightly tweaked the recipe, dredging the tofu in cornstarch before pan-frying.) Thank you Trockwood!!!
Have a great weekend.
