Friday Round-up
What we're reading and eating (and dreaming of) this week:
A very special exhibit at the Cooper-Hewitt! (God forbid any Pixar news goes un-reported on this blog.)
We drizzled Sean Brock's Homemade Barbecue Sauce on ribs last weekend and now we want to drizzle it on everything.
In defense of Moms on Their Phones. (I totally narrate, do you?)
Ruth Reichl's refrigerator door. (Uh, where's the Hellmann's?)
I just ordered Good and Cheap: Eat Well on $4 a Day, a cookbook written to address the plight of food stamp recipients who have to feed their families on..four dollars a day. I haven't gotten my copy yet, but I hear it's jam-packed with helpful advice on thrift and resourcefulness. For every copy purchased, the publisher will give a second copy to a family in need.
David: Will you marry me? Hugh: I'll do anything just to shut you up.
One-bowl "famous" chocolate cupcakes.
The surprising resilience of print. (Why does this make me so happy?)
Now you know what to give your serious vegan friend for his or her birthday.
It's been one of those months in the DALS house where we find ourselves at the pediatrician/orthopedist/dentist's office every other day. The upside? Each time we visit, we ask the doctor if we can take home a pair of plastic gloves. In other words we are all set for Halloween.
How much do I love MapMyRun? A lot.
I'm joining Alana Chernila, Shauna Ahern, Katie Workman, and Jenna Helwig for a "Kids in the Kitchen" talk at the 92nd St. Y in New York on October 13. Please come say hi!
Lastly:
You'll hear much more about my next book very soon -- is there any doubt there? -- but in the meantime here's a sneak peak of some of the images we shot last week. (Some of you may have seen it already on my instagram feed.) I could not be more thrilled with how everything turned out. Stay tuned!
