This was perfect timing to redeem some less-than-peak strawberries in the fridge. I roasted them up tonight and threw them into an arugula and butter lettuce salad with goat cheese, shredded carrots, TJ’s sweet and spicy pecans, and a maple balsamic vinaigrette. So good 🍓👌Thanks for the idea!
Excited about the cookbook - thanks for the tip. I borrow cookbooks from the library, and if I fall in love with them, I buy them. This is how I purchased my own copy of The New Midwestern Table by Amy Thielen. She spoke so eloquently about the celery she grows in the Midwest that I started planting celery in my vegetable garden, and she's right! Celery fresh from the garden is amazing.
I give my dad the 3 month Murray’s cheese club for his May birthday and for Christmas. One goes to IL and the other to FL. He’s super social and it makes entertaining a breeze. It is a great gift!
Love the cheese-as-gift idea! This past Christmas we gave our two older kids (19 and 22) cute (or cool- Yeti for my son) French presses and a 6-month coffee subscription from Trade coffee- they offer French press grind in the options. They had been surviving on Kuerigs and were eager for better coffee. They’ve loved it!
I use a locally done hot smoked salmon on your legendary Salmon Salad. I think I’ve just about got it down to a no-turning-on-the-stove-or-oven meal—which is perfect for those hot, steamy summer days when I can’t face adding one more degree to my kitchen. Looking forward to trying this!
Looked up the cookbook and you can get on Kindle for $14.95. You can also take a sneak peek of about 10 recipes you just might want to try before one’s official Mother’s Day gift arrives!
I've been racking my brain for a gift idea for my soon-to-be-23-year-old daughter. She and her friends love a reason to get together and are big charcuterie fans! Thanks for monthly cheese board idea. She'll love it!
I'm also new UWS apartment owner - splitting time between NYC and Westchester. I keep hoping to bump into you (fan girl)! I have so enjoyed reading about your move here!
We had so much fun with our Shaker & Spoon cocktail box subscription! Box arrived and a gathering would ensue! Highly recommend. We learned a lot too :)
Shoot, Substack won't let me post a link. It's easy enough to google Shaker & Spoon, though. They're Brooklyn based. So I'm sure it's a thing on the east coast! ENJOY and CHEERS!
Love that idea for strawberries!! I feel like season is so short. I’ll give it a try! Thanks, Jenny. (Also - like Andy, I can’t go to the store and ONLY bring home what was on the list!)

Strawberries don’t get the credit they deserve in savoury, but techniques like roasting show small tweaks can completely change a dish.

I love those iced oatmeal cookies so much. Andy is brilliant!
When you make your green sauce, are you plucking leaves and chopping your full cup of herbs or are you just throwing in the top half, stems and all?
Top half stems and all, sorry for the confusion. Cilantro stems are so tender, I don't bother trimming.
What would you do if it it were parsley? That always gets me w herb sauces. The trimming!!!
I do same thing w parsley. And: same!
