Forgive me, I forgot the link to the Asparagus Tart shown in the first photo. It's part of this entertaining menu for paid subscribers: https://dinneralovestory.substack.com/p/a-100-make-ahead-party-menu?utm_source=publication-search

So glad you posted the tart recipe here in comments as I really wanted that one :) Also thanks for thoughts on Yesteryear...someone mentioned it for our book club, and I was like I don't know about that lol...and happy early bday! Just had mine -- gotta love a spring bday when all is in bloom and delicious! Enjoy yours!

Reading this while extremely hungry and overwhelmed with pre-college jargon--asparagus tart and mapping happiness feels like a perfect prescription!!

Don’t you just love birthday week?

Speaking of joy, I am loving Kate Bowler's new book, called Joyful, Anyway. She makes an interesting distinction between joy and happiness that resonates with me.

Thank you – once again – for your excellent book (and dinner) suggestions!

Happy Birthday Jenny! I am on the library waitlist for Yesteryear. Can’t wait.

I also liked Lady Tremaine. Very clever to flip the Cinderella story. I didn’t always like the main character but it helped me understand her actions.

I’m curious when you have encounters like the one described at the market do you immediately think “that’s going in the Substack”? Is it true that everything is copy? 😊Also eagerly awaiting the fat asparagus here in PA

Definitely not true - for me at least. You can say a lot without saying *everything*

I read Yesteryear a couple of weeks ago…such mixed reviews but I really liked it. Just put a hold on the Dublin stories at my library. Tonight I’m making the quinoa/eggs/ spinach dish you mentioned recently and tomorrow the sausage/broccoli/ pasta dish. I just bought Japanese sweet potatoes too.My doctor has ordered me to avoid pasta, white rice, potatoes etc as well as sugar (rheumatoid arthritis) and wow is it hard. I could easily go back to being a vegetarian but this makes it even harder! Edited to say I just realized those recipes are in Dinner: A Love Story.
