Vacation Highlight Reel: Lisbon
A week of eating, walking, and beaching in and around Portugal's capital city
Greetings eaters and readers! My husband and I have just spent seven days in Lisbon, exploring its winding cobblestone streets and hilltop vistas, sipping porto tonicos at the old Kiosks dotting the city’s public spaces, and savoring its magical golden early-evening light. Lisbon is home to a dozen or so UNESCO World Heritage Sights, and we checked a few of those off our list, but my favorite part was settling into the city, shopping its markets, day-tripping to world class ocean beaches, getting to know our neighborhood, and, of course cooking and eating our weight in fresh (and tinned!) fish. While we were there, a friend asked us for family vacation advice — she was in search of a destination for teenagers that was both cultural and beachy — and the answer couldn’t have been more obvious.
