Taffy Brodesser-Akner wrote a fascinating article about the real life kidnapping that influenced her book and how we deal with traumatic experiences. Definitely worth a read.

When I was living in San Francisco in 2017, we called the High Life + Aperol cocktail a “NASCAR Spritz”!

Tim is my first cousin and one of my best friends, so I say YAY to the Spaghett!

That spaghett sounds horrible. I can’t stand beer, but will take an aperol spritz any time! I just finished Sandwich by Catherine Newman. So good! I want to try the chicken, but don’t have a grill. Suggestions? Thank you!

You could use a grill pan on your stove top.

Duh! I didn’t even think of that! Thanks so much!

I am intrigued by the Spaghett. Aperol is not for me, but some version that leans more bitter? I may have to experiment. (As soon as the refrigerator is downstairs again from its holiday in the living room & the plumber comes back to see why there is no water in the new dishwasher….)

I listened to an interview with Taffy as I unpacked my kitchen late last night. I can’t wait to read this book!

I preordered Long Island Compromise as soon as I heard about it months ago. It was delivered today and I can’t wait to dive in. Definitely my most anticipated book of the summer! Family sagas are my favorite genre too. Great idea for give as a gift!

Jenny - I am always trying to re-find recipes but I cannot locate this list you reference:

all past dinner party menu plans and Monday-to-Friday meal plans on the home page of my newsletter (right side of the page, under “Featured”),

What am I doing wrong?

Expand full comment

On the home page, if you scroll down, there are some meal plans on the right side. But they are all from 2023 and 2022? Where are the current ones?

I took advantage of your special offer as I really need to improve my cooking game! Will make the chicken this week. Looking forward to some more great looking recipes.

Your Three Things are just SO darn good! (And if you want a fourth thing, you could talk about knitting!) I loved Fleishman is in Trouble and cannot wait to read this book. I just read her piece in the NYT this morning and it's going to stay with me for a while. I'm currently reading Sandwich, which is engaging from the first page. As for the Shaghett, I had not heard of it (I'm a non-trendy, 57 year old!), but it sounds easy and refreshing. Look forward to trying.

That chicken marinade is now a top contender on my 'must try' list. Sounds gorgeous.

Miller High Life has some thirst quenching properties that other beer (including brewery beer) does not. The Spaghetti sounds like a dream beverage for the sidewalk weary city dweller.

Jenny, went down a rabbit hole reading your gazpacho recipe - what model vitamix do you have? I have a bit of wedding gift money leftover and have been dreaming of one, but am so overwhelmed by all their models that I don't know what to pick!

I tried the spaghett last year at Wet City in Baltimore. It's a refreshing take on a shandy, and a great antidote to Baltimore's heat and humidity.
