Catherine is coming to a book store near me (that sounds like an infomercial!) on Thursday. I have a busy week but, how can I not?!? Also, that page above - I seem to be often asking my husband for words by providing a description -- "you know, the thing with the holes that you shake with pasta?" Umm, colander?
Just finished reading Sandwich over the weekend, tears and laughter! I will read it again, it just speaks to so many stages of parenting and so many emotions. ❤️ I also loved We All Want Impossible Things. One of my all time favorite books. Look forward to your zoom in August! Thank you!
I adored WAWIT so much--it gutted me. Last night I started Sandwich and could not put it down. Although I don't have kids, I found it incredibly beautiful. I cannot wait for this event--thank you!
Also, I had the most menopausal excitement about this book. On pub day, I realized that I accidentally pre-ordered it twice. I am the proud owner of the ebook (ordered in December) and a physical book.
I love We All Want Impossible Things soooo much, can’t wait to read Sandwich! I haven’t bought a book in years (well except cookbooks haha), have been using library but I think I will buy Sandwich and maybe WAWIT because I think I want to read that every year. I’m going to be in NYC for trade show on 8/7 so won’t be able to attend Zoom, I’m so sad!
We were at the Olympic Track Trials for the first four days-and saw Matt Wilkinson race and then later get his medal on the podium. He had such great energy and there was a large crowd of enthusiastic and fun supporters cheering him on. His gave a special shout out to all his supporters from Carleton and thanked the program there. It made me (a Californian) look at her high school-about to be a senior-track running son and say "Where is Carleton?! Maybe we should look it up!"
Also....I will read anything and everything Cathernine Newman writes. It's like she's living in my brain but then writing it out much more articulately and hysterically than I ever could.
It's a very special place. And yes the running program is topnotch (women's cross-country team won NCAAs last year) but it was everything else, too, especially the academics. P.S. Phoebe was one of those fans cheering him on in the stadium!
Absolutely loving Sandwich - I literally just read the Snyder pretzel chapter last night before bed, too! I find myself laughing out loud in some parts and my husband is always like, “care to share”? Her writing is real and refreshing and so relatable to me at this stage in my life.
Loved this dispatch! I can’t wait to read ‘Sandwich’ and I look forward to trying that buttermilk dressing recipe too. And am now trying to convince myself that I don’t need those striped candles or the book on the south of France…
Oh, Sandwich is waiting for me on my kindle. (Whoops, it was a NetGalley copy that got published before I got to it!) moving to the top of the TBR list. Love that excerpt. So relatable, even long past menopause! And onion bacon pasta…. Yum!

@kathryn - go Cambridge! Please go! I was supposed to attend but got COVID :(
Love, love, loved this book - read it on almost one sitting last week and was sad when it was over...

I’m excited about the buttermilk dressing recipe and the stripy candles! Thank you for recommending them.
