Your post from years ago pushed me to dry weeknights (but at the time only in my mind because I had very young kids at home and it seemed like a pass. Ha). After thinking in my head I needed to do this for the past year, I am finally doing it and I am so grateful. AND, same: I miss the ritual at 5pm so much. Thanks for the gentle push and reminders of ways to (re)create rituals in a glass.

Love Som! Have you tried TART? Their celery vinegar is lovely in seltzer.

I've (and husband!) been dry since Xmas day and I feel like 1 million bucks! It's been hard and easy at the same time. Im kind of addicted to how good I feel and look, so that keeps me going. not sure on the timeline. I'm going to make this shrub this week!

oh, AND.. do you think this shrub would work with ACV? I like the idea of the added health benefits.

Further clarification... ACV is Apple Cider Vinegar if you cant read my mind!

Yes, you can even just use the ACV for its own shrub -- 1 part vinegar to 3 parts seltzer. So so good.

My son is a die-hard Arsenal fan and would probably move out if we watched anything about Tottenham. Maybe I'll watch it on the sly.

Haha. I get it!

watched 'All or Nothing' a few months ago and now watch one of their games almost every weekend! Our almost 3 year old has declared Son his favorite player :).

Also, love the idea of a shrub - thank you for sharing! I like the process of making a drink - it makes the evening feel more special. This will be a great non-alcoholic addition.

I'm a Liverpool Fan, but I have to say my favorite player from another team is Heung-Min Son. I wish Sonny would come play for us!

The Manchester City season of All or Nothing is also so excellent!!

I started it already!

Ok so tell me if this is weird or not... I have loved the idea of these shrub drinks, but I'm very lazy. So, the other night I shook up a little jar with about a tablespoon of jam and a tablespoon of ACV. Poured it over ice and topped with bubbly water... Really not bad at all! Feels a little janky, but I swear it's tasty!

I am not sure we can easily buy distilled vinegar here in Australia. What would you suggest as a substitute?

Expand full comment

A tip from a Brit: its always "Tottenham", or "Tottenham Hotspur" or "Spurs". But never "Tottenham Spurs" ;)

And Son is also my favourite :)

Jenny could you use frozen fruit for the shrub?

Expand full comment

I used frozen raspberries and it turned out great!

Have you watched Ted Lasso? Highly highly recommend. It made me want to get into watching football 😆

Treated myself to a set of Seedlip’s non-alcoholic spirits for the holidays, but I love this idea of making shrubs. I love vinegary things. Actually, I’ve been on the hunt for a really high-quality red wine vinegar- any recs, and where to order online?
