For years, I meditated when I first got up, even before having coffee, but now, I read poetry. Not an entire collection, just three or four poems, while I'm drinking coffee. I save the meditation for later in the day. And I also read a different set of poems before going to bed. Doing so smooths things out for me. I hope Mary Oliver continues to speak to you.
When my in-laws downsized out of the childhood home of my husband and his four siblings, we had a House Cooling party with one last family dinner all together at the house before they moved. It was a wonderful send off to all their memories there together.
I love Mary Oliver so much. It’s making me stretch and comment! 😂. If you want to do some listening on Mary Oliver check out Wild and Beautiful, a celebration of Mary Oliver. It’s a beautiful listen - sorta a book / sorta a long podcast with amazing interviews about what Mary Oliver means to people ❤️
Good luck with the move! I’m just as sentimental as you are, and I like to think that others benefit from it! I know that your kids will be grateful for all the last-time things!
I’ve been reading Mary Oliver most mornings (clearly I’m not alone), but love the idea of reading her at night. “The Journey” was a life changing poem for me at a pivotal time. I find David Whyte to be similarly resonant and also on my morning meditation/wake up ritual.
Is this a thing? Years ago I was struggling with postpartum anxiety. A doctor recommended Mary Oliver before bed. There is something about the way she talks about nature that makes me feels safe enough to drift off to sleep. Hope you sleep well tonight 💗
I have that very same Mary Oliver collection next to my bed and always randomly chose a poem when I'm struggling to sleep or just struggling in general. Next to her I have Matt Haigs "Comfort Book" and "The Joy of Small Things" by Hannah Parkinson.
Hi! Love the Mary Oliver. Do you have a source for US purchase of the one-piece stainless offset spatula? The only place I can find it is in the Philippines and the shipping cost is nutty.
Thanks. Happy moving! You'll be so happy when you're through it!
Reading this brought to mind the recipes written inside the cabinets and your girls' makeshift doll house from years ago. Moving is so hard. Hope it gets easier for you, Jenny.
It's hard, emotionally speaking, but I am, by all accounts, FINE. Please do not worry about me! I don't want to make this whole move sound like it isn't, in fact, an adventure I chose myself, and one that I couldn't be more excited about. xo

If you love Mary Oliver (as I do too), you'll really love Mary Oliver's drunk cousin on insta https://www.threads.net/@maryoliversdrunkcousin 😝

Love the Mary Oliver poem! Reading Mary in bed at the end of a long day is always a good idea, in my experience.
Thank you for the Mary Oliver recommendation. Now I know what I will do when I can't sleep. Her poetry is healing for the soul.

Thank you for the poem. Morning is my favorite part of the day. I’ve been lucky to be an early riser for all of the life. Happy packing. ❤️

I don't know, but it should be. I'm sorry about your struggles, Emily.
Thank you for sharing the beautiful poem and about reading them! I recently checked out the book at the library but haven’t dug into it yet.

I love the Tofu Bahn Mi from Weekday Vegetarians! My family's favorite. I love that book so much. I recommend it to everyone I know. Thank you!
so glad, thank you Maria!
