Thanks for the NA beer tips--I'm going to explore these. Also, taking my 100 year old WWII veteran dad to Hawaii in March--he's never been and served in the south pacific. Any place you can point me for restaurant recommendations there?

Not sure which island you are going to but here is a write-up of Hawaii from SEVEN YEARS AGO (how?), so please check to make sure all recs are still open. http://www.dinneralovestory.com/vacation-highlight-reel-hawaii/

Yes, he's quite the guy--we'll be on the big island, staying on Waikiki beach, thanks so much for the recommendations. I'll scope it out!

I had yearly trips to Oahu 2020-2022 while watching my own dad succumb to dementia. For various reasons we never stayed with him and my step mother in Kailua, so every year was a focus on Waikiki restaurants. I love Nico’s Pier 38, north of Waikiki. Also Moku and Scratch kitchen in/near Ward Center. In Waikiki, Duke’s is a lovely setting (but make reservations!). Any restaurant from Roy Yamaguchi is worth a try in my book too.

What an amazing thing you’re doing for your dad ❤️

I never comment - love your newsletters and receipes. Just had to say that your Pasta con ceci is our pasta fazool. Im sure you have heard of it. Very southern poor food - dont think thats where Dal is going with it - but basically pasta con fagioli (beans) in a Napolitana dialect

Hi Jenny! Re: Overstory and the lack of reservation....a few years ago I met a friend at Manhatta for a drink and we didn't need a reservation. Also on the 60th floor with stunning views, drinks, and food!

My oldest daughter just recently moved away from NYC and I don’t see myself going there any time soon but your restaurant recommendations are definitely making me rethink it!

Thank you for sharing that poem! I'm here for the study abroad content too. It feels so hard to have someone you love so far away and yet its exciting for them and you. When our oldest daughter studied abroad in Copenhagen, we also went to visit and had the best time. Then, last year, our younger daughter spent the summer in Rome and we went there too! We may be returning as she now has a serious! (long-distance for now) boyfriend there and she lives in NYC.

Jenny, you are just the best! Thank you for continuing to share your life with all of us. I have been reading and re-reading your essay on your dear father, and also his obituary. Makes me sorry I didn't know him.. what a man. Also, you are so great with book recommendations, I am going to give you one- First Lie Wins, by Ashley Elston. She is from my hometown of Shreveport, LA, and used to be a fellow portrait and wedding photographer. Reese Witherspoon has picked this as one of her selections, and it is a crazy ride. Your readers may enjoy it. Cheers!

Love this collection. Just sent my college senior (2,455 miles away but who is counting) the recipe from Victoria. That will be popular in her house I think. Thank you for posting!!

I don’t get the appeal of Breakfast by A Salt’s Cure at all. Felt like I was being punked!! Griddle cakes were lightly burnt on the outside and slightly raw on the inside and no syrup. Wtf. lol. But it’s super popular and I like that they are doing well. I’m all for the energy they bring.

Which one did you go to? Mine was definitely A++++ and I was skeptical of the no syrup thing, but fully on board as soon as I tried...

Carroll Gardens. I love the vibe and having people excited about eating there, it’s nice. Feels like I’m missing on what the hype is about. Maybe I’ll give it another shot? Possible I was there on an off day?

I live down the block from Radio Bakery and I've only gone once so far. The warm, salted chocolate chip cookie and the ham rosemary butter sandwich were unreal. Hope you enjoyed my neighborhood!

Can I ask a recipe question? I can't eat chickpeas (annoying...) would you replace with white beans? Something else? Thank you!

Don't you just love reading Jenny's posts, and getting a dose of the 'Big City Life', along with fabulous ideas and recipes and book suggestions? Years ago, she recommended 'Dear Edward' , and it rocked my world.

Yay for Jenny!

Hi Jenny,

I love your writing and dinners and recommendations and links. And I love the recipes that bring into your newsletter from other cooks--so generous. Even when I don't make anything, reading your letter makes me feel like I might; or that a really good friend might make it for me. Your N/A beer note, which was very useful, also made me think about my ongoing search for a good gluten free beer. There's not always a selection in restaurants but when I'm taking beer to a friend's house, especially with the Super Bowl coming up, I'd love to be able to pick one or two up. If you have any recommendations, please share them. Thanks again, and my continuing sympathy for you loss.
