I loved everything about your ad and hope so many great college students will too! “ Humanities majors are particularly encouraged to apply” = ♥️♥️♥️ and the way you encouraged them to do further research on the newsletter (i.e. coaching people to prepare their best applications under the guise of explaining practical subscription info!) is something I am going to emulate!
Your book suggestion is so timely. Good things/conversations can definitely happen when people connect and I think a lot of us are wanting/needing this now more than ever. I just began reading, The Art of Gathering - How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker and I feel like these two books could go hand in hand.
Thank you for reposting some asparagus recipes. My husband recently made your Farrotto with asparagus and mushrooms for Sunday dinner - delicious!
Love those questions, though they strike me as second questions, not swaps! I love the idea of starting somewhere more basic and then building to something more interesting and revealing from there.
And the internship sounds like an incredible opportunity! I hope you find a great fit!
Ah! Love much the idea of reframing conversation starters to be more about feelings than facts, but wanted to offer that a few of the examples you shared might be reworked to avoid classist pitfalls—for ex, the college question, as obvs not everyone went/goes to college. Just some food for thought.
Yes, of course, thank you. I didn't mean to suggest you should ask all of these questions. Just giving examples of how to reframe certain questions so you can apply to your own (like white lotus, haha).
Thanks so much for bringing this up. We JUST had very dear, very old friends to dinner and we landed on tv shows out of sheer headline exhaustion, just as you say. It made me sad, even though I knew why we were doing it.
It’s so easy for us to default to “Have you seen any good movies lately?” There are juicier, more meaningful ways to have conversations that we’ll actually remember. Thanks for the reminder.
I love that you are offering a PAID internship! Such a wonderful oportunity.

Thank you for the reminder about Priya Parker's manifesto. I just downloaded it on audible -- long overdue!
So so ready for asparagus season. But still having the "you gotta wear a real coat" argument with my kid every morning.

yes totally -- the first question is the launching off point, then you get deep fast with the second one!

I will happily dissect the White Lotus all day, every day!
Why not recommend the basic Lux timer, which doesn’t need a battery, costs less, and will work for centuries?
Your internship sounds wonderful! If you ever want to hire someone remote to do this at any other time of the year, please keep me in mind.
Her glittery eye shadow WAS really cool.
hahaha
Do you remember a time when *you* felt cool wearing make-up? 😜
Yes, I loved that eye makeup, and I was curious to know how you go about removing it. Will your bathroom look like a disco ball afterwards?

"headline exhaustion" is a good way to put it

I wanna give that gap toothed girl a big hug… then probably make out with her… then steal her glitter eye shadow 💋

The last part about communication make me think of a short film just released about how important communicating with others really is https://youtu.be/0Hx9NRR8Z3s?si=f1H5T7ct5rXg3nU1
