I'm grateful for the tip about Christmas with the Tallis Scholars. Beautiful! To return the favor, I'd like to recommend A Chanticleer Christmas. Their annual Christmas concert here in San Francisco is a seasonal highlight, and their rendition of Ave Maria is particularly gorgeous!

This is perfect timing! I’m baking for friends, co-workers and neighbors this weekend. I want to add both of these cookies. By the way, I went to Eric’s recipe and randomly watched the video. How have I never watched a NYT cooking video??? I always just read the recipe. And weirdly, I have made multiple Eric Kim recipes and never knew how absolutely delightful he is!!!!

He's so charming...and an amazing writer, too. If you don't already have Korean American, I recommend it highly: https://www.penguinrandomhouse.com/books/669403/korean-american-by-eric-kim/

Advent my favorite - a beautiful season of hope and waiting. Advent is papered over by all the shopping and bustle of year end. Thanks for sharing Christmas with the Tallis Scholars. I'd never heard it before and always want more Anglican Advent music. I was so happy to find this on Spotify! Listening right now - Lo! He Comes With Clouds Descending is a wonder.

I just made caramel for the first time (with Oat milk!) and I was so proud of myself! Note to self: do the same next time I have leftover cream.

I'm proud of you too! It's easy, right? And glad to know that Oat Milk works!

I’m feeling very full still after a thanksgiving week with house guests and so much more dessert than I usually eat, but the NYTimes Cookie Week recipes all look so fun!

My go-to cookie for swapping is KA's Spiced Ginger Rye Cookie, which come together so quickly and easily (doesn't even use butter!), and is always popular with kids and adults: https://www.kingarthurbaking.com/recipes/spiced-rye-ginger-cookies-recipe

Oh, just wanted to say also, I grew up with my mom playing the Waverly Consort Renaissance Christmas album, and I can't recommend it enough!

I think I won a category of our work bakeoff using the triple ginger chocolate chunk cookie last year! Those are so good. I wish I could post a picture of the best looking cookie box I ever saw on instagram. The contents were pecan bars, lemon snowballs, mendiants with pistachios, what appears to be Dorie Greenspan jammers with apricot, and slivers of dried mango - a few dipped in chocolate. Can't decide what to bring to the bakeoff this year but if it's not a cookie it will be the Sonora Chocolate Custard Pie that Susan Spungen just posted during Thanksgiving from the EatMore substack.

Beautiful music! Molly Wizenberg has a link to some similarly beautiful choral music in her most recent newsletter-- I was enchanted and listened to it all weekend. Thanks for sharing-- adding this to my holiday playlist!

As someone who has followed you and Jo for years but only pays for your substack (no offense to Big Salad) I am thrilled that there’s a picture of Freddie here!
