100% agree about the importance of family dinners. Thanks for the book recommendation!

Also, I make apple crisp all the time since it’s so easy and one time my aunt made apple crisp but she DICED the apples small and they were the exact same size (she’s a very good baker). It was amazing for some reason since I always slice them! Also, have apple crisp with cinnamon ice cream that you can find this time of year to change it up!

Wow, those are such valuable insights from Turkle - and so validate my instincts about the importance of shared meals

I know, right? The part at the end when she describes our family members' dispositions as "we're ready and we're listening" makes me think I REALLY don't do that enough during the other parts of the day.

Sunrise is one of my favorite places! Their apples are incredible. And their apple cider donuts… I miss Vermont so much!

Sherry Turkle's books have also been formative for how we approach technology and conversation in our house. Have you read her memoir? It's fascinating.

So many good things to make with apples! Our favourite — which I just made for Canadian Thanksgiving this past weekend — is Apple-Marzipan Cake. It's in Classic German Baking by Luisa Weiss and it is epic — the tender crumb, the hint of almond flavour, the sweet pops of apple. We've adapted it to be gluten-free and it always bakes up perfectly.

I always add a couple thinly sliced apples to your brothy chicken sausage and cabbage recipe on COJ. It's fantastic.
