Counterpoint: I have been vegetarian since I was 11, pretty much (I do eat very occasional fish), and OMG I am so tired of the "what about the _protein_" people.
Just that people like to vastly overestimate how much protein the average adult needs, and then talk about it All The Time. To anyone not eating a giant steak, seemingly. But also protein is in almost _everything_. Sure, there are certain health conditions that might mean you need a lot more, or if you are a serious serious athlete, but mostly, if you eat a relatively varied diet...you are not in danger of being protein-deficient. Like, at all. But man, do people love to freak out about possibly wasting away if they don't cram as much discrete protein as possible into everything!
Your ad hoc New England “book tour” feels so personal - I live near Middlebury and my kid goes to Mount Holyoke! Thank you — I’m sure to find a signed copy now:)
I love Venieros! And have also been in NYC for forever and so appreciate those spots in an extra sort of way. And also, can’t believe Salty Cheesy is right above your book on that bookstore shelf you captured in the photo!
I love this quote about cold water swimming! I am a regular cold water swimmer but I never talk about it (for aforementioned reasons. Sounds so trendy and virtuous, but actually it's just something I've loved since I was a kid). It's THE thing that makes me feel most alive, free and like a kid and 1000% worth the dread of being cold since as Miller says, it takes all the other dreads away.
The Daily podcast did an interview with Sally Rooney a few days ago and it is so good! Highly recommend.
I grabbed my book over the weekend in Pacific Grove, Ca. So happy to purchase; and from my local bookstore.
Go Blue!
you'd be forgiven for mistaking the M for Michigan, considering the color of my bag! :)
