Love that photo of Laurie Colwin so much!! It is so fun to look at a great desk, and she is just an amazing writer. I read Home Cooking for the first time before I knew she had died relatively shortly after it was published, and I was just gutted thinking about her family when I did the math
This is an old post, so it doesn't feel totally obnoxious to link to my post---from 10 years ago---with a graphic I made (with baby photoshop skills) of that same Colwin quote I love so much. It's about the community that taught me to cook and your quote made me go look for the post (on a site I haven't used since I closed my photography shop years ago): https://www.deirdreokeating.com/2014/10/how-i-learned-to-cook-part-3.html
Also made me smile to see I listed Jenny Rosenstrach as one of my teachers even back then!
Oh my goodness!! Laurie Colwin!! Both of her books are dog eared from me reading rereading and recipe using from them! Love all the quotes you mentioned but I think my favorite is:”Happy or Sad, Sick or Well, we must all be fed.” Thank you for mentioning her incredible writing: I feel like she is/was one of my best friends, or at least, favorite kitchen companions. She had such great instincts and observations on people, life. Sigh.
Of course, your cooking inspiration is amazing... just wanted to give a shout out for your book/podcast/gift recs that are always so spot on. I LOVED Curtis Sittenfeld's Romantic Comedy - perfect Spring Break kindle companion. Please share summer reading too!
Love Laurie Colwin and miss her

I had no idea there was a new Laurie Colwin story in the New Yorker this week! Thank you for sharing!! This makes my day.
3Great tips! Thank you!
On my shopping list: corn & wheat tortillas.
On my "to make" list: the egg, cheese, and tortilla combo as per above.
Hadn't heard of Laurie Colwin but definitely like the sound of her!
I am such a huge fan of the TJs half corn half flour tortillas......one of their best products imo!!
the parchment paper thing to prevent eggs from spilling out is so obvious and so genius! Thank you for sharing!
Love Laurie Colwin and can’t wait to read
the New Yorker story. Her creamed spinach recipe is beyond delicious. And her writing is like comfort food.

What date is the issue of the New Yorker? I looked in the April 3, and April 10th issues and couldn't find it. I love Laurie Colwin!! Thanks!!

Little did I know that I was on an unspoken quest to solve my egg/cheese problems. That looks so good!
That last quote - love it so much!
And love your tortilla trick!
